Who is a disciple? Every follower of Jesus is a disciple.
What is discipleship? One Christ follower leading another Christ follower to Christ.
Why should I disciple? Jesus commanded it.
Can I disciple someone? Yes. Jesus' command to disciple others is based on obedience, not knowledge or skill.

The 6 weeks of "Foundations of a Disciple" teaches and develops the essential characteristics and obedience of a disciple. The 6 weeks are:
1. Jesus is Your Salvation and Story
2. You are a New Creation
3. The Holy Spirit Points you to Jesus
4. Surrender Your Struggles
5. You are Called to Give Generously
6. Follow Jesus by Serving Others

Discipleship begins with an invitation. Making a simple and clear ask is essential to beginning a new discipleship relationship.

Reading scripture is significant part of the discipleship process. Here is a simple, yet powerful approach to reading and discussing scripture effectively in discipleship:



What do these verses tell you about:
- The character of God and Jesus?
- The brokenness of people?
- What is the struggle in believing this verse?
- What does God desire for you to do?

Prayer vital to our relationship with Jesus, and vital to discipleship. Here are five rhythms of prayer to practice each time you meet for discipleship:


- Speak: The verses you've read as a prayer
- Praise: God for his attributes
- Confess: Where you need God's help
- Intercede: For the needs of others
- Commit: Your week to living more faithfully

Read: John 3:16-19
Discuss: God loves you. You're a sinner. Jesus is the savior.
Live: Write your God story and share it with someone.

Read: Galatians 2:20
Discuss: You are a new creation in Christ, totally accepted and deeply loved.
Live: Take communion and remember Jesus' love for you. Set up a time to be baptized if you have not already.

Read: John 16:13-14
Discuss: The Holy Spirit helps you to walk with God daily.
Live: Fast from one thing to be more open to the Spirit's leading.

Read: 1 Corinthians 10:13
Discuss: Christ is your strength in times of struggle.
Live: Confess and repent to the Lord the areas in which you're struggling and write a plan of escape. Join a House Church and build a support community.

Read: 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
Discuss: We model the hope we have in Christ by giving generously.
Live: Decide an amount to begin giving to the Church.

Read: Matthew 5:16
Discuss: Your service shows Jesus to others.
Live: Begin serving by (1) finding a ministry in the city to serve with or (2) serving as a House Church Pastor or Host.
